The Process

Just wanted to give an update to the minimal number of people who read this blog. I'm making swimming progress with the remaining weapon guides. The only thing that could impede my progress is my urge to play other games (torchlight anyone, or maybe some borderlands?). Anyway I won't be deterred, everything will come out on time without fail, I promise.

I'll be brief, this is the second of a total of five videos covering guns in fallout three. More specifically, this is part one of two covering advanced weapons in FallOut 3.

The Render

First of all happy holidays and Merry Christmas.

Just working on the finishing touches before I render out the video. After that I'll compress it and put it up on YouTube by Monday. I'm giving myself a grace period this time, since I always seem to have such incredible trouble getting the first upload to work.

Hope you have (or had) a merry Christmas. Now I'm looking forward to new years.

Beginner Weapon Guide

Ok so I'm proud to present my new video, the FallOut 3 Beginner Weapon Guide. It's taken me some time to get into the project, but here is part one.

Yes, that's right, I said part one.

To make up for not releasing much content over the past few months I have a large line up of guides. This video marks the first in a series of five total videos that cover nothing but the best weapons in fallout three.

Now check out the video

Look forward to the next instalment on Monday, the 28.

The edit

Just wanted to say that I'm in the process of doing some pick-up work (video and audio), and then I'll move onto the final stage of editing the guide together.

With all the pieces at my disposal now things should move along rather quickly.

Oh yeah the four months of no content is going to be paid off soon. I've estimated this project to turn a larger result than I anticipated.

Recording

I just thought I'd give you an update and also elaborate on what I'm doing.

Currently, I'm capturing footage for the next guide.
This step would race by normally, but fallout has a habit of crashing when I'm capturing footage. There's also the additional fact that recording game play is the most time consuming step of the entire process.

Some of you many think scripting is the most time consuming.

While that can be true capturing footage is a non-stop thing, and I have to run around in game a lot to get all of the shots I need. In this particular case, capturing is the most time consuming since I have a very long list of things that have to be recorded.

well back to work.

Oh yeah Hopefully I'll have something out by this Monday.

Vampire comments

While working on voice recording this past weekend, I really go into the roll of things. As a result I arbitrarily decided to do a video response to the question; "Do you advise being a vampire in oblivion"?
Most of the project is graphical play, as what you see is entirely a result of just screwing around in After Effects.

This marks my interest in communicating my opinions with anyone who wants to ask what I think on a subject. Feel free to message my alternative youtube account if you have any opinion questions regarding oblivion or fallout.

Hope you like it

Sorry

I just wanted to apologise for not being able to get the guide out last week, and for the fact that I'm having more delays than I expected. As it stands I can't give a time table for when new content will be out. IT kills me to say that because I'm actually moving into the later stages of production.

It is what It is.

Sorry

Update

Hmmmm, Ok so I've moved deeper into production, and in the process it seems I've underestimated the length of my work. It would seem that instead of having one guide, I'll end up having to split it up. It's not a real problem, but I would prefer this kind of thing didn't happen. After all it signifies that I have more work cut out for myself, than I originally thought.

I'm back

Ok, so for the last month I was busy fulfilling obligations. Even though I have more things to do, I noticed that I haven't given an update recently. Here's the deal, I'm currently pouring over a lot of data in order to do some proper scripting. I've got a lot of ideas, but they all require real work to come to fruition.

All I really wanted to say is that If can hold myself to my proposed schedule I'll have a new guide out by the end of this month. somewhere around the thanksgiving holiday (that's the 26th for those of you who don't celebrate the U.S. holiday).

Ok, now to get back to work

Scripting

Ok, so my life has been full of obligations and I've been diligently working on the next guide with what little time I have to myself. So now I've come to the point where I'm 90% done with scripting and there's not much left besides revision and editing. Next up is recording and video capture, once that's all done everything will just fly right by, as editing doesn't take to long ever (editing one whole guide together doesn't take more than the better part of one weekend day). Honestly It's just making sure I'm writing things properly that takes time.

Update

Ok, so this week hit me like a ton of bricks, and I didn't get a chance to post about the progress I made over labour day weekend.

In short I got plenty done, but not as much as I wanted to do. I was aiming to write two full additional scripts and only got through 90% of one of them, not even starting the other. It's not like that was a small amount of work within itself; It took me nine to twelve hours to get that much done.

Anyway the whole point is how I made good progress. Even if it wasn't as much progress as I was hoping to make.

Info and update

Ok so first off I'll just say that I've become really strapped for time and I don't know how long till the next guide will be out. However I do promise that a lot of work will get done this labour day weekend.

Ok, now the primary purpose of this post is to tell you about my secondary channel on You tube. I go by the SN "TheXiver" and it's primarily meant for my more personal videos. Serious productions will remain under my main account (linkthe1st). I hope you visit my new channel because if I can't write a full guide over something I'll probably rant about it there, in a typical talk to the camera style video.

Also I recently uploaded a video for the HP you o you contest (just made the deadline).
So check it out and please vote for me.

FYI
To vote for me go to the HP contest page, click on the community award tab and enter "artist" in the search box. Then click on the thumb with the red background and the guy in the blue shirt. when your watching the video go ahead and click the thumbs up!

Update

Ok, so I'm roughly 90% done with the rough draft for my next guide so I'm making steady progress. However most of what I'm here to say is that I'm going to have more personal time constraints soon and i don't know how much it will affect my ability to work on my guides. I'm going to try to keep moving at a good pace, but there's a ton of things that could possibly get in the way. So be patient with me please.

Opnions

While the next guide is well in the works and I'll be publishing it in good time I have a question for everyone who reads this blog.

When it comes to another guide after what I'm working on, I have several ideas but which one I should choose to produce next is a cloudy decision. Read the list below and go here to vote for the one you think I should do.

Fallout Beginners weapon guide
Fallout start guide (what to do once you leave the vault)
Fallout Advanced weapon guide (end game stuff)
Oblivion Vampire cure guide
Oblivion Daedric quests guide
Something else (you specify)

If you think I should do something that's not on the list vote for "something else" and leave a comment here that details what you think would be better.

I look forward to finally getting some real comments on this blog. Though I doubt this will really work.

Spawned

So those of you who watch my guides should know that I focus on two games. Oblivion and Fallout, the latter being what got me started doing videos to at all. Well My first guide ever published that got the ball rolling was my Oblivion Vampire guide. It's still my most watched video today and also the most copied.

One of the things that came to my attention for some odd reason long ago. was how after I published my guide I found one or two blatant low end copies of it. Today there are several vampire videos that HAVE to be somehow spawned off of my original. The things that say this are as follows; First they were all published after my guide. Second every one says to go to the barren cave even though there are MANY other vampire dens in more convenient locations. Finally even though not all of them go so far, there are several that detail the same methods of finding out how you contracted the disease, where to go afterwards, and that you don't have to kill vampires to be infected.

Hell there's even one that spawned off of the most evident copy of my video.

I'm just simply find it amusing that a guide from me a total nobody has spawned knock-offs. I just never thought it possible.

Scripting

Ok so just an update. I've made little progress over the last two weeks because of my job. I haven't had the energy to stay concentrated so I've been avoiding working on any guides till I can focus.

On the flip side though I have been spending some time attempting to build a weapon guide. I'm really talking about stuff that you can grab at the beginning of the game. It's difficult though; Finding weapons that aren't generic models at the game's start is in no way easy. I've got a few ideas though so the possibility isn't lost. Only reason I'm really even trying to start a guide like this is because SO many people keep requesting it. I guess my equipment guide for Oblivion whet a lot of peoples apatites. So it stands to reason you would want a weapon guide for FO3 right?

Anyway I'm a busy guy with a life so bear with me since I dont' release guides that often.

Errors and Annotations

Ok, so that guide I published this past weekend about duping is a good example of why I don't push guides out as fast as I can. Already, as of now that short little guide has the most annotations to fill in gaps on info I didn't know about. The reason is because I just pushed out that guide in one day start to finish. It's a good example of what I'm capable of doing and at what speed I can do it at. Yet look at how much more info I discovered just by sitting down and thinking over HOW the glitch seemed to activate. Because I totally skipped the research and cross reference part of writing a guide; I feel that I have published a sub-par video. I don't have any problems with lots of annotations building up over time. However when I have THIS MANY, in not even a week, it's a clear sign that I have not done my job properly.

Apologies, I'll put a proper amount of work into the next guide.

The Great Return

Well I'm pleased to say that as of today I have been able to get back to work on another project. Around three weeks ago (ever since I published my last video) I've been stuck fulfilling obligations and sorting out personal issues. I'm happy to say that I'm totally through everything and I shouldn't have anything else pop up to deter my work. I'm still in the midst of figuring out which of my scripts I'll use for my next guide though.
As it stands I have several rough scripts that need cross referencing and error checking. So It's not like I'm short on possible candidates for my next guide. Its just picking which one should have priority that's difficult. After that it's the normal process of perfecting the script. Then the true process begins voice recording, video capture, editing, and finally publishing.
Also just so you know putting the guides together isn't that hard what takes me so long is trying my best to prevent errors in the script. I hate doling out erroneous advice.

Custome Weapon guide 1 of 2

What did I say? I was working the whole time. The whole reason that it took so long to get this out is because it's not the project I've been working on for the most part. The original guide that was in the works hit some massive snags and as a result required me to rewrite it. So Instead of delaying the release even further I chose to shelve the project and move onto another guide which is the one you see here. This one had it's fair share of snags too. It would have been out earlier last week if all my software hadn't been so disagreeable.

On a side note:
No worries The second part is coming soon.

Error!

The guide would be out by now if it weren't for the fact that my PC is being a little bitch. Somehow the footage that I captured has corrupt segments in it. Of course I don't see how, only After Effects sees the corruptions and my media players don't have a single problem with the files. I've been running into very large problems when I try to check how the edits look when played back. As a result it may take another week to work past these problems.

Don't worry though I'm TRYING to get through the issues, but I have no clue how long it will take me to solve them. Just keep in there I'm coming with additional content.

Forging on

Ok, so I've moved into the editing phase which is the last part of the process (if you disregard publishing). I'll have my next guide out in a relatively short amount of time. If anyone is even reading this, like always the subject matter will be a surprise.

The only other thing to mention is that I have no clue how long editing will take. It's typically a short process but the FRAPS codec doesn't agree with After Effects to much. Based on how much the two things get along I can edit a guide in no time or it can take forever. The primary reason for this is that when AE doesn't' want to work with the FRAPS codec the program constantly crashes.

Update

Progress is being made. I've come to the editing stage and Unless I run into a VERY large obstacle I should have a new vid out within two weeks if not sooner. Right now I'm struggling with a lack of drive space. I've nearly exhausted my 500gb drive, I'm down to a minimal 8gbs left. As it stands that's the only real problem, but I haven't done any typical data maintenance since I built my PC a year ago anyway, so it shouldn't be any real issue to solve.

The goods are coming and I'm still working on other ideas too so don't get down there's more stuff on it's way as well.

Next Step

The message I have to give is that the gong is slow. I'm consistently being distracted weather it be by other work or by my massive desire to engage in recreational activities. Either way I've been at work and I have made progress. I haven't been following any rigid plan for what I'm doing so I have bits and pieces in several areas done. The only two phases that haven't even been touched are the recoding and editing parts. mainly because those are ALWAYS the last parts I tackle.

Well anyway the whole reason I decided to post is because I've made a crucial decision. I've been wondering if I should go HD with my videos. Thus far I've been creating them in standard definition and I know people are happy with them. Well now I've come to the conclusion that I'll be producing my guides in 720p HD unless I run into problems that should stop me from doing so.

So when see my next guide go full screen to get the full experience!

Progress update

Well things are looking good for my new guide. After some extensive work and painstakingly playing FallOut 3 in MANNY different manners, I have come to 95% completion on the script. I know I'm being vague, but that's just what this is all about, letting you know that SOMETHING is coming. What about details you may say? Who needs em'? Not me I say, as I like to surprise people.

Now all that's left is to clean the script and make final revisions. Then I can move onto narration recording followed by additional stock effects generation, video capture, editing, and finally publishing.

Ok ok so on the grand scale I'm only around twenty-five to thirty percent done but hey research and scripting is by far the hardest part. I hope you loyal readers realize that!
